Colorful Wedding Reception, Cleburne Texas Wedding Photographer

Here was the preview of this wedding reception that I posted on facebook several days ago. I just love the idea of using bright colored gerber daisies in brightly painted mason jars. What a cute idea that could be used in so many different areas! This wedding receptions was so full of bright colors that I had so much fun taking pictures in the soft setting light. The weather couldn't have been more perfect! I have put together some collages to display all the beauty....wish I could have just shown you all the images. Wonderful food and decorations....and wonderful bride and groom and families. Congratulations Mr. and Mrs. P! Thank you for letting me be a part of your beautiful day!

Here is a picture of the beautiful couple I had the privelege of meeting about 2.5 years ago when they were expecting baby Mac and we took maternity pictures. I have loved seeing them so often while capturing baby Mac grow the last two years. Mama here LOVES getting pictures taken and has amazing scrapbooking skills to document life as it happens. She is an inspiration to me. :)
We combined Fall family pictures with 2 year old pictures of Mac! We started the session off in their matching TSU shirts.

Mac had the cutest little cheer outfit on and you must notice the cute ribbon laces to match her outfit. So cute!

Next Mac got dressed in her "mini mouse" outfit. Loved using the matching chair and balloons for these pictures.

After a while we decided to let Mac REST and took some fun couple pictures of just Mom and Dad...something I think ALL parents need to remember to do. Even if you don't have a professional photo shoot...snap some of yourselves often. :) You will be so glad you did when you look back!

I told them to pretend I wasn't there .... and this is what I got. (See below!) Lol. makes me smile.

Now they switched into their formal family picture outfits...and another "mini" dress for Miss. Mac and took pictures just as the sun was setting.

I was excited to see this family again for Fall pictures. Little tyke here was one year older and sat still just a little bit longer than I remember last year. Its always fun for me to follow the kids around and see what they will do next. I think it makes for some fun candid shots....letting kids be kids. :) We started out at a local park and this new location I discovered just a few days before. I loved the look of the trees hanging over with a little bit of morning sunlight shining through the trees. Mama here requested the red train next because little tyke LOVES trains. It was fun watching him try to figure it all out and wondered WHY the train wasn't moving. Lucky enough ... a real train came through so we got to stop and watch that for a bit. Thank you "C" family for a wonderful session and letting me capture your beautiful smiles. :)

Parker turns 6 months, Cleburne Texas Child Photographer

EVERY baby needs a picture by a pumpkin! What a little sweetie pie. Can't believe Mr.Parker is already 6 months old. So excited that this mark fell in October for some fun Fall/Halloween pictures. Love this baby's big brown eyes and his expressions! He is wondering WHAT in the world I am doing. Just love the first picture with the bright orange color...but loved a similar picture in a black and white conversion ... giving this image a classic , timeless feel.

Love LOVE this black and white image too. I had a fun time playing around with the colors because he had on an adorable colorful sweater...but the stripes looked so good in black and white too. :)

Little stud muffin hangin out with his arm on my new "old" box. :)

I always have to follow the babies around during outfit changes. So cute! He was talking and blowing raspberries.

If you follow me on facebook you have seen this image before. It cracks me up every time I see it. This poor little fellow did NOT want his costume on. He lost one legging during the struggle and that little face....so sad. And so cute. :) So many of us mothers can relate!

And a darling close up in the owl costume.

And there is that sweet smile! Mr.Parker....see you again at 9 months old.

Before and After Edits, Fort Worth Botanic Gardens Photographer

Just thought I would show a quick before and after edit of a wedding I am working on right now. I am always amazed at how a few edits can transition a "snapshot" into a beautiful portrait with rich warm colors and soft skin tones. :) I also love the purple flowers this bride chose...a color I have seen a lot this fall! More of this wedding in the Japanese Gardens coming soon...

The "K" Family, Cleburne Texas Photographer, Families

I always LOVE catching up with former clients and seeing how the kiddos grow up so fast. I took this couples maternity pictures and little baby "P" 1st year portraits. It was fun to see them back this fall and they were actually my first official fall family portraits! I love the black , green and pink this mama picked out. Little "P" was so cooperative and adventurous. At this age, it is fun to just follow them around for a second and see what they come up with. It makes for some really sweet faces that you couldn't catch otherwise. About halfway through our session, she was changed into this bright colored sweater dress. Just too cute. She always has the cutest little outfits and headdresses on. :)

It was just wonderful to see yall again! Thank you for letting me capture your family this fall. Happy Holidays !

Mikala - Class of 2012, High School Senior Photographer, Forth Worth Texas

This was the teaser posted on facebook of my latest senior session....Mikala. What a fun session we had! We watched a storm develop in the sky but the rain held out until we finished, thank goodness!

Before each senior session I like to have a little consultation with my client. We discuss locations, outfits and props beforehand. This consultation helps me get to know my senior client better so that I can create a personalized session all about them...something they'll LOVE to look back on and remember what it was like to be a SENIOR. :) Spending at least an hour with them lets their personalities come alive once they get warmed up in front of the camera. This provides for GREAT pictures...unposed, capturing the real them...something a quick studio snapshot can not achieve...in my opinion. :)

Mikala brought several outfits to change into during our session. She wanted to start out in a stream of water where we found lots of cool locations and textures. I was wearing mud boots...brave Mikala was barefoot. :) After we finished there we drove to her house in the country so that we could take pictures with her horse and used a pretty field of tall dead grass. A Special Gift, Cleburne Texas Family, Newborn Photographer

Several months ago a friend called me up and wanted to purchase a special gift for this special family. She explained .... this couple was married about two years ago and has spent more time apart than together. The husband is in the army and stationed in Japan and because of the nature of his assignment, she was not able to go with him. She has been living alone in the states, carrying their first baby. He was not able to make it home for the birth of his daughter, but surprised his wife shortly after she was born. My friend wanted to give them a gift of memories so that they could remember the short time they had together and this once in a life time event...seeing his newborn baby girl...with a photoshoot. These pictures were taken just before dad had to fly back to Japan and their daughter is only a week old! It was a wonderful oppurtunity to capture these special memories for this young couple!

I had so much fun photographing this wedding at the Dallas LDS temple and following them to an awesome reception in the heart of Dallas. You can see this couple was surrounded by a wonderful and fun wedding party , which always keeps things interesting. :) I love love this brides colors and the purple you'll see throughout the pictures. Here are several of my favs on the temple grounds immediately following a private wedding ceremony.

Later that evening we moved on to THIS location where the reception was held. Cool cool building and location with a roof access where the amazing Dallas skyline pictures were taken.

Another personal favorite....kissing in the sunset.

My very most favorite part of the evening was the AWESOME music and DANCING. LOVED every bit of it along with everyone there. People were dancing all night long...even the little two year olds shuffling. Lol. My favorites were of the bride and groom dancing....their very first dance of the night and then working up a sweat. :)

After the bubble line, this groom had to find a way IN to their getaway car. Congratulations to the beautiful couple!

Megan's Bridals, Dallas Fort Worth Cleburne Texas Bridal Portrait and Wedding Photographer

Its so hard having to wait to post bridal pictures until AFTER the wedding. This is my beautiful youngest sister Meggie. :) She just got married this past weekend and I can't wait to go thru all of the pictures and to show some from the wonderful wedding! For this bridal session, we went to a couple different locations....a fun field that you'll see again soon, and downtown Cleburne....love this black door. So here are a few of our favorites! Natural Matnerity Portraits - Dallas/Fort Worth , Cleburne Texas Photographer

Maternity sessions are some of my very favorite sessions! I always get so excited to capture these pretty mamas at their most beautiful moment...a season that doesn't last for long and in my opinion, something you'll always want to remember. I recommend booking a maternity session between 32-37 weeks along. You want to be SHOWING, but not too uncomfortable and in my case, swollen. :) And of course you don't want to risk , going in to labor early and missing your maternity session!

This is my younger sister. She is 27 weeks pregnant and showing quite a bit, being her second pregnancy. She is having a BOY and he is due CHRISTMAS day! :) We wanted to take these pictures early and as soon as we felt like she was showing enough.

I thought quite a bit about this session beforehand. I wanted to capture the natural beauty and rustic elegance. I chose a very natural location among trees, foilage, and a creek. She wore a vibrant, flowy dress and cowboy boots...and she fixed her hair with some curl....long and flowy. I love the pop of color and sun shining through the trees through the first set of pictures.

I wanted to capture the pretty trees all around in this photograph. The traffic wasn't too heavy but we did have to run in and out of the street quite a few times. We were on a small country road and were located just the other side of a bend. Maybe not smart, but love the result! I love the vibrant coloring up above but also liked it in the black and white down below...couldn't decide.

We moved to a slightly wooded area and I wanted to try a little more vintage look...therefore using the trunk and editing in the soft coloring. I love capturing the natural lighting all around and the softness of these photos and the leaves on the ground.

This is one of my favorite pictures from the session....especially the composition and lighting and that beautiful baby bump.

9th Wedding Anniversary, Cleburne Fort Worth Dallas Wedding Photographer

We celebrated our 9th Anniversary this August! Thanks to Mimi and Papa who keep the kids. :) We went on a day date and enjoyed eating, talking and laughing and had a wonderful time. Time alone does not happy very often with three small children so I cherish the times we get to get away. I brought my camera to take some pictures of ourselves. :) I would set the timer, and then run into place and smile real quick. Had to take plenty of do-overs and here are some of my favorites from the day. It made for some good laughs... my heels were getting stuck in the dirt which didn't help getting infront of the camera in 10 seconds. Anyway, so glad to have some pictures of our special day. Thought I would share them with you. :)

RAW vs. JPEG, Dallas Fort Worth Wedding Photographer

For fun here is a little sneak peak of a wedding I am still in the process of editing. This image, along with just about every image I take is taken in RAW form.

Photographers are faced with an important decision...to shoot in RAW vs. JPEG. RAW files can be compared to something that is raw or "uncooked." The camera does not manipulate the file in ANY way before saving it on the memory card. This raw digital negative can be edited to your heart's desire, until it is ready to be printed! Absolutely NO LOSS of quality occurs during the editing process. The ONLY drawback to this option is the massive file size of RAW files! These files are much much larger than JPEGs. The actual number of images you can take with your camera will depend on the camera you own (specifically its megapixels) and the size of your memory card. So if you plan to shoot in RAW, get a larger memory card or better yet, buy a few of them...and think about additional computer storage for your computer as well.

On the other hand, if shooting JPEG files, each image is being processed before it is saved on your memory card. Certain edits will take place within the camera, such as variations of contrast, sharpness, color saturation and these edit can NOT be UNDONE! The JPEG straight out of camera shot will look better than RAW straight out of camera due to this editing done within the camera...it is already slightly processed. This does not mean that the JPEG image file can not be edited any further, but any color or exposure settings applied when the image was captured...can not be changed. Any time a JPEG is edited and saved it loses quality because it is being compressed...something once again that can not be undone! Every compression will result in a loss of image quality , overall pixels and the maximum print size decreases, which is something you don't want...especially when running a photography business. The only benifit to shooting in JPEG will be the amount of pictures you can fit on ONE memory card...something I am willing to give up to get the RAW file editing power. :)

Here is the start of a great fall this year. What a cute little family with these darling brothers. I just love snapping away and capturing all the cute , simple things about kids...about siblings. The oldest has a great smile and littly tyke was a little tired this night, but the pictures of his cute little chubby features are priceless in addition to all the many pictures taken of them just being kids...playing and making faces. I always love grabbing a few with mom too and seeing the interaction. Its hard as moms to get pictures of ourselves with the kids because we are always behind the camera!

Wallace Wedding Part II, Fort Worth Dallas Wedding Photographer

Here is the final post for the wonderful Wallace Wedding. If you missed the pictures from Part I, click here. I have to say that my favorite part of the night had to be the DANCING! This family moved all around the dance floor and it was so fun to watch...and hard not to dance myself.
The first dance: the bride and groom. I love capturing their sweet expressions!
Next , the daddy daughter dance...a few tearful moments! I had ONE picture from my own wedding dancing with my dad and it will always be special to me. :)
The groom with his Mama....so sweet, his sister (wow, look at that move), and with his new mother-in-law.
And finally only a few others! I love the picture on the far left. Love is in the air. :) What fun dancing and great music!

The bubble line, always fun before the final EXIT. The groom had to break through the saran wrap, greasy handles and rice filled cab...but finally on their way!

Wallace Wedding Part I, Dallas LDS Temple Wedding Photographer

This beautiful couple was married in the Dallas LDS Temple on a HOT summer day in July! I have split up the pictures in two parts...those at the temple in Part I and the reception in Part II. We worked fast and took some formals of all the guests at the temple and then had a sweet couple session on the temple grounds following. I love the happy and excited faces on the bride and groom...its like they didn't even notice the extreme shooting conditions! :) A special thank you to Kathryn Claire photography who was my second shooter for the day. This has got to be the cutest little baby. I am in love with all of his little features. :) It was so fun to see how he has grown since his newborn photo shoot three months ago. I also enjoyed his cute older brother as well that you'll see more of down below.

Up above is one of my favorites. This baby stage is just so adorable as they are cooing and trying to communicate already. :)

And look at those sweet chubby legs. Yes...I just love babies. :) We'll see Parker again in October when he is 6 months old!

This sweet little guy is my nephew and the last of my newborn sessions this year. He was 4 days new for his very first photo shoot and such a sweet little thing. He didn't fuss one bit. I loved getting to hold hem..he smelled so good. Can't wait to see him again soon!

This is new prop I received just before this photo session. I tried it in full color and black and white. We were indoors, up agains a plain wall....thinking next time, when it isn't so HOT...might try some outdoors picures with this thing!

Meet Parker Hudson and Brady Owen! I was so excited about this set of twin baby boys that I was able to meet on my trip to Houston. They were so cute and little. Mom and Dad had their hands full juggling both babies. We'd get one baby all settled and asleep and then brother would be fussy and vice versa. If you have twins, I am sure you can relate! It was crazy and wonderful at the same time. :) I just loved some of the sweet candid moments that were captured and I think those will be fun to look back on as the babies get older. Just about ONE year ago, I took K's senior pictures out in the country on her parent's land. I had so much fun with all the new rustic and country locations at my fingertips. You can see them here. :) I was so excited to visit this home again, and this time take engagement pictures for K&J's wedding that will be happening this Summer! Again we moved to several different locations and caught the beautiful sunset. What a wonderful couple...I wish I had video recorder going when they were singing together while he played the guitar! They have beautiful voices!

Congratulations to C&R on getting married today! I was excited to finally post these pictures after holding on to them for six weeks. We had a fun session moving around to various locations with our caravan and trying out new things. I always love getting a good one of JUST the ring.

So much of what makes a wedding fun to photograph ...besides the beautiful people of course, are the tiny little details. And yes, that includes fingernail polish. :)

Congratulations to all the seniors who graduated last week from high school! What a great time and accomplishment. This is Jessie's senior session and wraps up the seniors that I photographed this year. We were a little worried about the STRONG wind the day of our photoshoot. It was windy for about four weeks in a row and decided to go for it. I think the "wind look" served her well. :) I will also share with you a senior book that I designed for her as a gift and you will see MORE of beautiful Jessie. This great family called me and asked me to come take these pictures of their family with their dog Blazer before he had to be put down the very next day. It was a bitter sweet moment for me. So sad of course, but great to see the family so happy and Blazer running around like normal one last time. I thought this photo shoot was a great idea and loved the idea of capturing this special time.

So I should begin by telling you all that I just love this family! I have been a part of their lives since they were expecting little Mac here. It just makes it so fun for me to watch her grow. It has been so fun watching little Benjamin grow...all the way from the time he was in his mama's tummy! What a sweet little boy. I loved being able to capture his very first birthday party! We started out taking a few pics of just him and then moved on to guests, presents and cake eating. One of my very favorite things to take pictures of at parties would be all of the fun decorations that are part of the detailed planning process. There was a candy bar for kiddos to fill their bag before they left...and parents too of course. Every looked and tasted so good. What a cute idea. Down below is one of my favorite pics of Ben from the evening. He has the longest, darkest eyelashes...I love how they look in this angle, along with the sweet baby curves of his nose and cheeks. Just angelic. Happy Birthday Benjamin!

I loved these two pictures too...of him feeding himself and the look on his face afterward. Again that litte face is too cute. Just priceless!

I was so excited to do this lifestyle photoshoot for my neighbor. They will be leaving the country to go on a mission and leaving their home. They are such a close knit family and enjoy being together. I always see them outside playing. This was such a fun family session....the scenery was beautiful and the children were the most well-behaved children I have ever photographed. These two little babies are just darling. Their dads came to me wanting to get surprise Valentine pictures for their wives...who happen to be twins. Today I was so excited to get out of the house and for the sun to be shining! We have been shut in doors for most of the week due to a winter storm and major cabin fever going on. :) There was still snow on the ground and only in the 40s but such a nice day. We are all happy it got above freezing. Here are some pictures of my darling little Abby and niece Paity. Neither one of them have a sister so they enjoy getting together for their "girl time" as Abby calls it. Here are some fun pictures from our mini session today. This little one here was absolutely perfect for his 6 month photo shoot. I don't think he cried or fussed even once. He was just so pleasant and quite advanced for a 6 month old. He was sitting up and trying to crawl all over the place. He was pulling all sorts of stunts and is now known as stunt man. We had fun, started out taking a few pictures in my home and then went to an outdoor location to finish up since the weather turned out to be so nice and sunny! What a cute little family. I was so excited about this session! I love all of these girls. I used to babysit these four girls about 10 years ago and now they help babysit my own kids. Crazy! We had a fun session and were running out of light way too fast. We tried out a fun new location and had lots of laughs. I just love this cute little family of three. I have the opportunity of documenting this little one grow her first year! :) We went out on the first of January, my very first session of 2011...it was cold, bitter cold once we stood out there a while. I was having a hard time clicking the shutter button. This sweet little baby was SUCH a trooper. I Love LOVE her little outfits. Her mama wanted to document this cute Christmas outfit. So adorable...love the hat. We had to work extra fast! I just love the picture of the family close up and huddled. Back in November I photographed this 1st birthday party! Every tiny little detail was planned out so well. I have been anxious to post this beautiful maternity session. I get so excited when booking maternity photos. I think it is a wonderful way to document your pregnancy and wish I would have thought about it during my own pregnancies.

I have to publicly apologize to Dana for dropping one of her "colton" blocks over the side of a bridge. :) We had moved to a new location and were going to try a few different shots of her hands holding the baby blocks. Well, while I was meticulously arranging the blocks, I dropped one and there it went...right off the edge of the bridge we were standing on. Way to go Kim! I couldn't believe I did it! It was just one of those moments I couldn't take back.

What a fun family session. It was so hard to pick my favorites because they were all good! I had some fun trying out some new editing techniques with some of their images. We took off a little early in fear of a thunderstorm headed our direction. It was soooo windy and dark when we got started but we kept going anyway. So many families have chosen to wear RED in their pictures this year and I LOVE it! I love the red and how it stands out against the black and little red highlights always looks nice. Fine Art Edit

I have gotten a lot of questions lately about my workflow. I think this will vary from photographer to photographer but is still fun to know HOW people take and process pictures. I always shoot in manual mode...I like the control this gives me. I always shoot RAW files and auto WB. I try not to use my flash if humanly possible. I will try all sorts of tricks to avoid my flash! The flash flattens an image...takes important detail away from a persons face if pointed directly at them. I will use my flash for fill flash occasionally and IF needed. If you do see me using my flash I am usually boucing the light off of your wall. :)

After my photo shoot I will load all the images on to my computer. I will sort through pictures quickly rating all of my favorites. I do this a couple of times to make sure I don't miss any keepers. Then I begin the editing process.

Each picture will get the following treatment...sharpened, color boost, contrast boost. This initial edit is referred to as a BASIC EDIT. This gives the image a nice pop to it and looks MUCH better than the straight out of the camera (SOOC) image.

Then I move on to the FINE ART EDIT. This is where most of my time is spent. This is what differentiates a professional photographer from any one else that can take your picture...in my opinion. (Not to mention the need of professional equipment and the need of Know How.)I spend time making sure the picture looks as good as it can. I know most photographers charge EXTRA MONEY for fine art edits. At the current time...I do not charge extra for this. I am enjoying the practice and learning more and more things and I like delivering my very best work whether or not you have paid for it specifically. Fine Art Edits include...applying photoshop actions to achieve different coloring affects, removing blemishes, smoothing out the skin, taking off a few pounds, adding a few pounds, head switches, removing distracting things from the image, enhancing facial features, etc.

Here is the beautiful family that you saw displayed on my Christmas card templates. We had such a fun and productive session. The three little kiddos were so happy and good the whole time. Ants, spiders and mosquitos weren't a huge distraction...thank goodness! Here are some favorites from our session. I am so excited about this new location that you'll be seeing more of this fall!

I told myself last year, that THIS year (2010) I'd like to be offering my OWN greeting cards. Greeting card templates are available for photographers to purchase...some of them are wonderful and some of them not so wonderful. I usually find myself wanting to add something here or there, or not include something at all. Maybe I am picky or just have my own ideas in mind. So, not that these are WONDERFUL...but it is a start. I am happy with what I came up with. I was glad to have found the time..one night, very late at night to work on this. I had fun seeing what I could come up with and design. I intend on adding more to my library of greeting cards, but I thought I would share what I have so far. Thank you to the beautiful family that agreed to let me use their pictures as my greeting card models! I will show more of their session in an official blog post a bit later. You should know that these templates are all 5x7. I can have them professionally printed for you, or I can include a greeting card image on your cd and you may print as many as you like. All text and images are changeable. Do you see one that you like?

This was such a fun photo shoot for me! I absolutely love this woman and think she is one of the nicest people I have ever met...so it was really fun to meet her fun-loving husband! I enjoyed capturing the two of them interacting. I think every couple needs a "couple" photo shoot just like this. We took all of these pictures right in the comfort of their home and normal surroundings. These are some of my personal favorites.

Again I have fallen behind on my blogging! I have a few fun sessions that I am excited to post. I will begin with little Piper! Don't you just love her name? Well check out her darling little yellow swim suit, chubby cheeks, and this sweet baby fast asleep. Here are only a few favorites from our session. She could hardly hold her eyes open...we decided to let her fall asleep and she stayed that way for a couple of outfit changes. Oh what would it be like...? I hope you enjoy!

There is just something I like about this picture. I am a fan of the color red and windmills. I went out yesterday with my kids enjoying the cool fall weather and decided to take my camera. The leaves are starting to change colors and fall....barely, but its a start! It was 50 degrees this morning and I absoluetly LOVE it. We have all of the windows open and the air smells clean and crisp. No sign of humidity this morning. Sunny too! I love this time of year. Another FREE FB give away soon :)

Why I Love Photography...

The other day, my husband and I were driving on the road...ALONE..(that doesn't happen very often) and we were talking. He asked me why I love photography. So I thought about it and intended to write about it on my blog for a few weeks now. Things just get busy and I have found no time. Tonight, I was going through old pictures and discovered a little photo shoot with my children in our own back yard that I did last Spring. They were playing in the dirt and I was playing with my camera. When I rediscovered these images tonight, I was motivated all over again about PHOTOGRAPHY! These are some of my very favorite pictures of my kids...they are unposed..not standing in a studio in front of a white drop cloth but are pictures of MY KIDS, DOING what my kids do...EXACTLY how I want to remember them!

Photography...allows me to stop time for just a moment, capturing that tiny little baby chub...it doesn't matter where it is. I like it on the cheeks, hands, feet, above the elbows, fingers and toes. My children all still have that baby chub, which to me is a symbol of them being little. Only now my oldest who recently turned 7...is starting to thin out. Her sweet little hands are starting to look like a little girls hand...but I will forever remember those chubby little fingers. Because of PHOTOGRAPHY...I can remember forever. Just by looking at a photograph, I am taken back in time , and those chubby little pictures can bring me to tears. Excuse me while I am being sentimental, but I realize that being able to capture special moments like this is a gift...something I truly enjoy and find very rewarding.

I love being able to make these memories for all of my clients. I have mentioned this before, but I hope that when my clients look back on these images, they too will REMEMBER and maybe bring them to tears as well. Because we are ALL getting older EVERY DAY it is just fun to LOOK BACK and remember. :)

Little Ben is 6 months old!

I just can't get enough of these babies! Six months old is such a fun stage..just so happy and chubby. :) You have gotta love his sparkling brown eyes and long eye lashes. I just love his little face.

Out of just about every session...lots of my favorites are the closeups. I love the detail it provides...the little curves of the faces that parents don't want to forget. I love this shot of his profile!

We were outside for less than five minutes. It was so humid that my lens kept fogging up from being in the air conditioner and that wasn't doing much good. I am excited for this Texas weather to cool a bit. Actually today I think the high was ONLY 90 degrees. We are making progress.

This little thing loves reading books. I think this "life style" picture is fun to document that.

Don't you want to squeeze him? lol. In a soft sort of way of course.

This very last picture is my favorite! The cutest little bee I have ever seen. It was fun to play dress up a bit!

Aperture

Several weeks ago, I was talking on the phone to one of my clients. She told me that her husband was really impressed with the portraits I had taken for them. He is a computer man himself, knows how to photoshop, and mentioned to his wife that I took the time to blur all of the edges of the portraits. :) Thank you by the way!

After I got off of the phone , I realized what she had told me and realized some of you might wonder HOW to get those beautiful blurred edges he was so impressed with. Honestly, Photoshop can't take any of the credit. :) Even though you can BLUR edges in photoshop, it is much much easier to buy a lense with a low f/stop and shoot wide open, creating a shallow depth of field therefore letting your lens do all of the work.

At one time I too wondered what differentiated a snapshot camera images with these professional images I was admiring. I studied and practiced and LOVE the effect APTERTURE can give a photo.

Okay , for example look at this picture below. I took this early this spring. My kiddos lined up nuts and I had to take a picture of it. This was picture was shot on a low f/stop (1.8) , creating a very shallow depth of field. With this shallow depth of field I am able to focus sharply on only a portion of an image with the outsides blurred. What do you think?

So, what is aperture exactly? Aperture, like everything else in a camera has to do with lighting...how much light is let in to your camera. By controlling the aperture (and shutterspeed and ISO) , I am able to let more or less light into my camera. For now we will just discuss aperture. View the chart below and keep in mind that my aperture setting for the image above was at f/1.8.

After looking at the chart, you should be able to tell that the lower the f/stop...the larger the opening.( f/1.4 is much larger than f/16).

Many of my clients have recently purchased their very own dSLR camera. The stock lens that comes with the camera usually has an f/stop range of about f/4.5 or f/5.6 and up. Additional, pricier lenses must be purchased to get the additional/lower f/stops.

Again...the lower the f/stop, the more shallow depth of field....this is referred to as shooting "wide open" because LOTS of light is able to come in to your camera creating this effect. I personally love the bokeh involved with a shallow depth of field. The bokeh is a fun name for the beautiful part of the images which is out of focus that can capture pretty light reflections.

Before I end, I wanted to mention one more thing about aperture and when I choose to shoot wide open with a lower f/stop or a wider aperture. Sometimes, I am inside a client's home dealing with low light situations...maybe an overcast day and hardly any sunlight. In this situation, I will crank down my f/stops to the lowest number possible...making the opening WIDE, trying to let in as much light as possible to achieve the correct exposure so that I don't have to use my flash...something I usually try to avoid. Now when I am outside with a family of five...my f/stops have to be at least set to f/5 so that all family members are in focus. In this case shooting WIDE OPEN is NOT the route I choose to go.

So , I want to encourage you all out there that have your own dSLR cameras to pull out your manuals that came with the camera, put that baby on a manual mode and see how to change your camera's f/stops.

Surprise Lily or Naked Lady

Thanks to one of my Facebook fans, I have learned more about my flower. Yes , a flower, not a weed. It is called a Surprise Lily or Naked Lady. It blooms in late August, September, and October. Have YOU ever seen anything like this before?

So this pretty flower popped up in my yard...seemed like over night. I am sure it is a weed of some sort. I just couldn't believe it. I have never seen anything like it....ever, not even last year in my yard, or my mom's yard or anyone elses for that matter.. It is over a foot tall and there are TWO of them together right in the middle of all my grass. I have taken some pictures from a few different angles. I would LOVE to know what this is. Any ideas? I think it is pretty :)
